Seven years ago, I hit rock bottom.
I was flat broke after a messy divorce and a disastrous business deal that forced me into bankruptcy.
I mean, real, actual bankruptcy, I have the paperwork around my office somewhere to prove it.
My life was in shambles
I had lost everything I worked so hard for, I had a long road ahead of me to build it back and my long-held dream of moving to Asia seemed more out of reach than ever.
I was crushed
And while this starts off as a sad story, it has a really, really happy ending.
I think to really explain it, I need to take you back a few years…..
My first trip to Thailand was when I turned thirty
It was right after my first divorce (If you are keeping score, that is Two divorces. I am a sucker for love, what can I say?)
Ever since that eye-opening journey, I knew I wanted to make the move permanently.
I knew from those first few days there that Thailand had everything I wanted.
Beautiful women
Delicious food
Interesting culture
Inexpensive living
Exciting sites and sounds
Here I am on a vacation with Ja and Pim in China
This was a great trip but they wore me out!
All with smiles on their faces and gorgeous women by their side or on their laps
With their white hair and rosy cheeks I often wondered:
Were they young enough to truly enjoy it?
I had decided that I was not going to let that happen to me
I was not going to wait until the very end to make the move.
After one night out while on vacation here, I remember thinking
“I will never be 35 years old, dancing on a rooftop with a beautiful Thai Woman Again”
After losing everything in that bankruptcy I told you about, I almost resigned myself to the idea that my dream would never happen…
But I just could not let go
I had to get out of my situation and start over
Let’s face it, the world around us is changing and studies show that men feel more disconnected than ever
Less respected. Less admired.
We are told we are toxic….
Western Women have become a species that most men can no longer connect with.
Maybe Social Media and Dating Apps broke them. I am not really sure…
My country had become so divided…by gender, by race, by politics (ugh!).
I lost faith in the media and in government institutions
I needed a change.
I reached my breaking point.
I had enough.
So, one day, I put my mind to it and….I did it
I sold everything I owned, cobbled together every dollar I could, and booked a one-way flight to Bangkok.
I was determined to have the new life that I just knew was waiting for me…
While I was young enough to enjoy it….
Was it easy?
Not at all
I faced challenges like navigating new cultures and wasting money on dumb things because I just didn’t understand how it worked here….
I imploded so many relationships with beautiful women that I certainly didn’t want to
And I got into other relationships with the kinds of women that I now know I never should have
I even got ripped off a few times….
But every hurdle was a lesson, and honestly…..
It has been so...much...fun!
I have seen and experienced things I never even imagined

The sounds
The feelings
I can humbly say that I have dated women far out of my league (lots of them) and taken them to the most beautiful islands in the world (and learned how to do it all without breaking the bank)
People save up for years to be able to afford to come to where I live for a few weeks
But I just get to step outside my door each day and dive in
Through my time here, I learned to allow myself to be taken out of my comfort zone…and to love the rush I get from that
It has changed me in so many ways…all positive ways too
Now, 6 years later, I don’t stress over the small stuff
(and if you knew me before you would be shocked at that statement)
I enjoy every moment of every day and…
While each of those days is sometimes a brand new adventure that may be a new challenge…
I love it, every step of the way.
Now that I've figured it all out, part of me wishes I could experience that thrilling journey all over again.
